Alex Kahan, President
Alex is founder and president of Nomad Press Commemorative, Nomad Press, a leading children’s educational publisher, and Nomad Communication, a marketing and design agency. Alex has more than 20 years’ experience developing titles, working with authors, and providing multi-channel marketing expertise across all Nomad companies. He has worked with brands in a variety of industries, from consumer goods, lifestyle, sports, and real estate, including Volvo Cars, Salomon, Nike, Sunsail, and a host of others. Alex began his career in the political arena working for several presidential candidates.
A graduate of Boston University, he is author of the children’s book Entrepreneurship: Create Your Own Business.
Tom McCarthy, Director of Acquisitions
Tom brings more than 25 years of publishing experience to Nomad Press Commemorative. Most recently, he was executive editor at Lyons Press (a division of Globe-Pequot Press), where he was responsible for the publication of many notable titles, including: Embedded: The Media at War in Iraq, which received Harvard University’s Goldsmith Award for Best Book of the Year; Facing Ali, the recipient of Sports Illustrated’s Top Books of the Year Award; Be Iron Fit, a Runner’s World Best Book of the Year; Alberto Salazar’s Guide to Road Racing: Championship Advice for Faster Times from 5K to Marathon; King of Heists, a Readers Digest Top Summer Book; Far Afield: A Sportswriting Odyssey, an Esquire Magazine Year’s Best Reads; and a number of BookSense picks, among numerous other titles. Prior to Lyons Press, Tom was acquisitions editor for Ragged Mountain Press, a division of the McGraw-Hill Companies. He is a graduate of Penn State University.
Susan Hale, Editor-in-Chief
Susan is responsible for ensuring that all Nomad Press titles meet the high quality standards for which Nomad is known. Susan brings 30 years of editorial experience to Nomad and has managed Nomad’s award-winning titles that have received critical acclaim from The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Kirkus Reviews, and The Times of London. Susan started her career as an editor for the McGraw-Hill companies, and edits over twenty-five titles a year for Nomad imprints. Her meticulous attention to detail is unparalleled.
Susan is a graduate of Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
Chris Lincoln, Senior Acquisitions Editor
Chris has been a journalist, copywriter, author, and editor for more than 30 years. He has written extensively on sports, recreation, and the arts, and his articles have appeared in a variety of magazines and newspapers. His copywriting has been recognized for its creative excellence by numerous advertising industry award shows, including Clio, One Show, and Advertising Club of New York, among others. A graduate of Middlebury College, he has studied at the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and been a guest speaker at Princeton University and Middlebury College. His book, Playing The Game: Inside Athletic Recruiting in the Ivy League, was published by Nomad Press in 2004 to broad critical acclaim.
Andi Diehn, Editor
Andi comes to Nomad with more than 15 years’ experience as a writer and editor for numerous magazines and journals including Kirkus Reviews, ForeWord Reviews, Yankee Magazine, and New Hampshire Magazine. She is responsible for working with Nomad’s authors to ensure a consistent tone and voice for all titles.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Andi holds a master of fine arts in creative writing from Vermont College.
Mark Schiffman, Senior Vice President
A 16-year veteran of Nomad, Mark works with all Nomad properties to create and execute marketing programs to ensure that all authors and clients receive maximum exposure. Prior to joining Nomad, Mark was program manager for the Rassias Foundation at Dartmouth College, and cut his editorial teeth by writing for multiple consumer magazines.
Mark holds a bachelor of arts from Dartmouth College.
Abby Clark, Design Director
Abby’s keen sense of color and her meticulous attention to detail are critical components in successful designs across all Nomad brands. Abby is responsible for taking a project from inception to final proofs, ensuring a consistent marriage of design and content. Prior to joining Nomad, Abby worked for the world-renowned Simon Pearce, a designer and manufacturer of pottery and home furnishings.
Abby holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design from Colby-Sawyer College.
Rachel Benoit, Director of Marketing
Originally trained as a classical French chef, Rachel brings the same skills necessary for orchestrating a great meal to ensuring smooth and seamless book production. Rachel is responsible for coordinating all editorial schedules and deadlines, working with Nomad’s design team, and managing all pre-press and printing. She has more than 20 years’ experience working with printers around the world, from China, Korea, Singapore, and Italy.
